In a brutal escalation of violence in Sudan’s ongoing civil war, at least 31 civilians, including children, were executed by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Omdurman’s Al-Salha neighborhood, according to the Sudan Doctors Network. The killings, described as the “largest documented mass killing” in the region, targeted individuals accused of supporting the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Graphic videos circulating on social media, shared by activists, depict RSF fighters shooting unarmed victims, prompting the Sudan Doctors Network to label the acts as “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity.” The group has urgently called for international intervention to open safe routes for civilians trapped in Al-Salha.
The executions occurred amid intensified clashes as the Sudanese army launched offensives to reclaim territory from the RSF in southwest and western Omdurman. Since April 2023, the conflict between the RSF and SAF has claimed over 20,000 lives and displaced 15 million, creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The RSF’s territorial losses in Khartoum, Omdurman, and other regions have coincided with reports of increased atrocities against civilians.
