Tianguá, Ceará, Brazil — A cyclist identified as Roberto (known locally as Roberto Baiano, full name Bartolomeu Santos Gomes) died instantly in a horrific traffic accident on the BR-222 highway at the Tianguá hill.
According to family members, Roberto rode this route daily as a passionate cyclist. Reports indicate he attempted to overtake in a no-passing zone marked by a solid line while descending the slope.
Two large trucks were climbing the hill in the slow lane, with a box truck in the middle lane. The box truck driver could not swerve in time, resulting in a direct head-on collision with the cyclist. The impact hurled Roberto under a descending truck, where a wheel ran over him, crushing his head beyond recognition and causing immediate death.
