The severed head of 26-year-old Priyanka K. was found dumped on a field along with bloodstained clothes in Banka, Bihar. Her body was discovered in parts, with the torso recovered from a toilet tank in a dilapidated irrigation department premises. Priyanka had been reported missing the previous day.
Priyanka had been married for around five years. Her family claims she faced repeated harassment and physical abuse from her in-laws, allegedly fuelled by alcohol, over not producing a son.
On the day she went missing, Priyanka and her husband had been invited to her sister’s pre-wedding ceremony but did not appear. When relatives visited the in-laws’ home the next morning, they were allegedly told she had left for her parental home and were abusively dismissed.
Priyanka’s husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law have been detained. Police are still searching for the father-in-law and other absconding family members.
