A Nigerian man was beaten and hacked to death without mercy using machetes in Mangu, Plateau State, Nigeria. Graphic video of the brutal murder was posted today on an X account, claiming it relates to the massacre that occurred on 24 January 2024.
At least 30 people were killed in renewed violence in Nigeria’s central Plateau State amid clashes between Muslim herders and Christian farming communities. Despite a 24-hour curfew in Mangu local district, attacks continued with schools, places of worship, and homes burned and ransacked. The Mwaghavul Development Association blamed Fulani Muslim herders for the assault on Kwahaslalek village. More than 100 people were wounded, according to community leaders and aid sources.
The Middle Belt region has seen ongoing intercommunal violence rooted in land disputes between nomadic herders and indigenous farmers, worsened by climate change, population growth, reprisal attacks, and criminal banditry.
