At least 17 inmates were brutally killed during a violent prison riot at a facility in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The riot left lifeless bodies scattered across the prison floor, with victims decapitated, slit throats, and stabbed.
The prison, which houses double its capacity with 10,000 prisoners, has a long history of bloodshed, including the deadly 2021 massacre that claimed 119 lives. Ecuador’s prisons have become some of the most dangerous in Latin America, plagued by overcrowding, corruption, and weak state control, allowing drug cartel-linked gangs from Colombia and Mexico to thrive.
