A horrific bus crash shocked southwest Bahia this Monday morning. Around 7 a.m. on April 6, a Rota Transportes bus lost control and slammed violently into a roadside rest stop beside highway BA-263, opposite Rio Pardo gas station, in Itambé.
The bus smashed into the structure, destroying the entrance and collapsing part of the building where passengers were waiting inside and outside.
Two people died instantly at the scene before rescue teams arrived. Several others were injured in the impact and partial collapse.
Local witnesses rushed to help victims trapped in the debris and called the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU). The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, where their conditions are being monitored.
The cause of the driver losing control of the Rota bus remains under investigation.
